Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Registered Psychotherapists work with individuals, couples and families in individual and group settings. Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the clientâs thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life (CRPO Website).
Clinical Supervision
Clinical supervision is provided by an experienced, seasoned therapist who provides guidance and oversight to therapists or trainees. This relationship is designed to enhance the quality of the therapist's clinical work, ensure ethical practice, and promote professional development. Key aspects include education/training, clinical case review, skill development, ethical considerations, personal development, cultural competence, support and well-being.
Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
A structured psychotherapy approach used to help individuals process and heal from trauma, PTSD, and distressing life experiences.
EMDR psychotherapy is based on the idea that traumatic memories are improperly stored in the brain, causing distress when triggered. The therapy involves bilateral stimulation (typically guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones) while recalling traumatic memories, which helps the brain reprocess them in a less distressing way.
Counselling
A Canadian Certified Counsellor performs counselling. Sessions focus on short-to medium-term support for specific life issues (e.g., stress, relationship problems, grief, career changes and tend to be solution-focused and present-oriented.
